Are you sure we took enough?

INT. CAR – DAY

(The low hum of an idling engine fills the car. Two men, DAN and MIKE, sit in silence, both staring out the windshield. The light ahead is red, and the world outside seems to hold its breath. DAN glances sideways at MIKE, breaking the quiet.)

DAN (muttering) I don’t think this drug is doing anything. You feel anything?

MIKE (sighs, shrugs) Nothing. Maybe we didn’t take enough.

(DAN starts to nod in agreement when something catches his attention out of the corner of his eye. A HUMMINGBIRD flits into view, hovering directly in front of the windshield. Its iridescent feathers shimmer—blues and greens dancing in the light. Both men freeze, mesmerized by the bird.)

DAN (mumbling, leaning in) Huh. Look at—

*(Before he can finish, the hummingbird jerks to the side, and suddenly, the world tilts. Time seems to slow. The bird’s wings, once a blur, now beat slowly, rhythmically—each motion distinct. DAN’s eyes widen as his body lurches, gravity slipping away from him. Then—)

FLASHCUT:

(DAN is ripped from his body, soaring through the air like a stone flung from a slingshot. He's with the hummingbird, darting above the traffic, weaving beneath the belly of a passing truck, swooping over rooftops. The city below stretches out in all directions. The rush of wind fills his ears, and for a brief, ecstatic moment, he sees it all. Then, as quickly as it began—)

FLASHCUT:

(DAN snaps back into the car. The hummingbird is gone. His heart pounds in his chest as he gasps for air, disoriented. He turns to MIKE, who’s gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles, his face pale, eyes wide in shock.)

MIKE (shouting, voice cracking) What the fuck! What the fuck! What the hell just happened?!

(DAN swallows, his mouth dry, struggling to process what he just experienced. He looks at MIKE, who’s staring at him like he’s seen a ghost.)

DAN (stammering) I... I don’t know...

MIKE (pointing frantically to the car’s interior) Dude, there’s a fly in here. I... I just followed it. Under the seat, out the vent. I was... I was the fly.

(They both sit in stunned silence for a beat. The light turns green, and a car behind them HONKS loudly. The sound snaps them back to reality. DAN blinks, his mind still reeling.)

DAN (slowly, eyes still wide) I think... maybe we got enough after all.

(They exchange a final, uneasy glance before MIKE, shaking, eases his foot onto the gas. The car moves forward, but nothing feels the same.)

CUT TO BLACK.
